Wuthering Heights – Everything Old is New Again

I absolutely loved the new adaptation of Wuthering Heights. From its sweeping cinematography to its hauntingly intimate performances, it captures the raw emotional intensity of Wuthering Heights in a way that feels both timeless and completely fresh. The windswept moors, the aching silences, the fierce devotion between the characters – it all stayed with me long after the credits rolled.

What moved me most was how boldly the film leaned into the story’s passion and turbulence without losing its tenderness. It reminded me why this tale has endured for generations. In fact, I was so inspired by the atmosphere and emotional depth of the movie that it sparked my creativity, leading me to write my own original song, “Wuthering Heights.” The film didn’t just retell a classic – it reignited it, and in doing so, it lit a creative fire in me, too.

The message? Any interpretation of an original work is the sincerest form of flattery, even if you don’t like it. The new version, with its erotic edge, keeps the original alive. Further, if it sparks a whole new surge in Emily Bronte’s book, then it’s done its job.

Much of the negativity towards the film appears to be the sexualised content, which obviously appeals to a modern-day, “Bridgerton-obsessed” audience. The purists will hate it, but I’ve always been encouraging of an adaptation that moves with time. For me, Emerald Fennell’s version of Wuthering Heights does that in spades, and in my opinion – it works beautifully.

By all means, read the reviews, but due to such conflicting opinions, please make up your own mind. Honestly, the costumes are worth the price of admission alone.

An informative Vogue article about Jacqueline Durran’s stunning costume designs. I’m calling it now…a third Oscar will be sitting on Jacqueline’s mantle this year.

Two Aussie leads in a big budget Hollywood movie…how good! When was the last time this happened? Baz Luhrmann’s Australia (2008), with Nicole and Hugh? Any others?
