Debbie Reynolds’ memorabilia auction raised a staggering $18.6 million dollars today. Millions more than the catalog estimate…Congratulations to her! Though her dreams of a museum to house her collection failed to eventuate, her foresight in purchasing these iconic pieces (long before Hollywood memorabilia was popular) has paid off…BIG TIME! And, there’s still hundreds more items to be auctioned at a later date.
I don’t understand why Debbie Reynolds couldn’t have funded her own museum by selling a few of her items. Glad she has some spare cash in her retirement years. 🙂
When you see these prices, it seems that certainly would have been an option, Paul. I figure she’ll be able to pay her outstanding debts and have some “pocket change” over…not sure how much she actually owes, but I’m guessing it’s a lot less than $18.6 million…and there’s still further auctions to come!
Didn’t she declare bankruptcy a while back? How is that possible when she had all this stuff. Even if it wasn’t worth as much then, surely it was worth a considerable amount. She should have had an auction then and paid off her debtors. Instead her debtors are screwed and she retires in the lap of luxury. Shame on her.
Yes she declared bankruptcy on a partly owned Las Vegas casino back in 1998.
I guess this played into the fact she couldn’t attract backers for her proposed museum. Once bitten….
