   I will admit I am torn about this one. Maybe because I am annoyed that the Classic Movies Actors & Actresses that I love have suddenly become “trendy” – Yet all these “new” fans seem so Fair weathered & it’s giving us TRUE classic fans a bad rep in the process. don’t misunderstand me I will share a favorite film, Classic, Foreign, Comedy, Documentary with any one at any time.

   What annoys me I guess is the fact that I meet so many people who “ADORE” Audrey, yet they can only name “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” or possibly “Sabrina” as her filmography… It seems they don’t want to learn any more and it’s more about status. It makes me want to shy away from naming the likes of Cary Grant, Audrey & Katharine Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Sophia Loren,Paul Newman, Liz Taylor, and Jean Harlow when people ask what my favorite “classic” actors, actresses are because I don’t want to be seen as “Trendy” film lover.

   Sorry I guess I am a bit overly annoyed today was just sent a picture by one of these Hepburn people who dressed up as Holly for Halloween, she said she copied the black dress & bell hat from the Going to Sing Sing scene.. Let’s just say it wasn’t even close to an almost copy….

   and yes I know Marilyn, Lucy, Betty Boop & Elvis have been marketed to death for the last 15+yrs – I have this sinking feeling that this movie is going to create more people trying to be a classic film lover just because it’s a cool thing to do for the next few months.

   I understand where you’re coming from, Erika. However, there’s always people jumping on the bandwagon about something…classic movie stars are no exception.

   I’m curious to see this film. Looking at the trailer, Michelle Williams seems to have mastered the Marilyn mannerisms and voice. Not an easy thing to do…such huge shoes to fill! If the story holds up, it might just work. That said, not too many films based on the lives of stars have been worthy of a mention and most of them are TV movies. This one has at least got itself a theatrical release.

   The problem is – Michelle Williams has the charisma of a television star. In “The Prince and the Showgirl” Monroe’s beauty was at its peak. She isn’t a movie icon without good reason. She genuinely had talent. I’m not a fan of biopics. A well made documentary using archive footage of the real Marilyn Monroe is generally much better. Seeing Williams dressed up in the “showgirl” outfit makes me realize she’s just a girl playing dress-up.

   Sometimes it does look like the actors are playing “dress-up” when they attempt a bio-pic, I agree. However, I just saw a clip of Williams singing in the role and she was quite good. I have to give her the benefit of the doubt, Paul. Yes, she stems from TV, but so have a lot of movie “stars”. I’m looking forward to seeing the film, that said, I will certainly be critical of her performance and of the film as a whole. If I like it, I’ll let you know…if I don’t like it…I’ll let you know 😉
