    PGreen – this is Why we get along so well.

    I agree Out of the Ziegfeld Stars Why Olive? She is not as well known as Fanny Brice, Marion Davies, or why couldn’t it possibly be Billy Burke?

    Just wondering…

    No offense Michelle but your wonderful book is really the only commercial product out right now telling her story.

    And hopefully this ploy to sell Mary Poppins tickets has people buying copies of your book.

    Yeah, it’s the costume that identifies her. My book does touch on this story. It’s been around for years and years, so much so that many performers at the theatre kiss their hand and touch her photo before they go on stage. There are tons of photos of past performers in that theatre, but her picture commands the respect. There are quite a few accounts of seeing her ghost in the theatre, not just the security guard’s story. It isn’t a ploy to sell tickets to Mary Poppins. I don’t think they’d need a gimmick to sell out that show anyway. My parents saw the Broadway production and absolutely loved it!

    I don’t know Michelle – The touring company of Poppins didn’t do so well selling out the theater here & these people can get suckered into going to that (so called) theater to see ANYTHING… Maybe it is a bit to pickup the National Tours of Poppins in a way If NY Loves It we Must See it Mentality?…

    I think it would be cool to see Olive send a kiss our way tho. 🙂

      The Mary Poppins promo aside, the ghost story has been around for over 20 years, and by multiple sources. It’s a shame the story has been overshadowed by the Poppins tag at the end of the clip.

      Is it true? Maybe…maybe not…

    This serves to remind me of the guy who narrated the E! Mysteries & Scandals show. His style was so “National Enquirer” it detracted from the actual content which could be quite good.

    How could I forget! He ended up saying he just read the scripts he was given and doesn’t remember much about any of the people featured in the episodes!

      He was a paid talking head. I can’t say that is Shocking. Working in Local news, you wouldn’t believe the how uneducated about current events some of the newscasters were. Even tho they read it aloud EVERYDAY for their job. Not knowing how to say Afghanistan properly and asking for the correct pronunciation of it everyday for 3 months was not funny after the 1st week. I can’t say from even my limited experiences that I can hold that against him. It more common than people actually think.

    That’s why the fees these people demand are so outrageous. They read material from teleprompters written by somebody else and want the big dollars. Meanwhile the writer remains anonymous and they take all the credit.

    The Olive ghost story has been around at least since the 50s. Back in the mid-80s when I was looking up info on her there was a chapter devoted to her re-appearance in one book I’d found. Stagehand saw her in the dress with a sash, made some remarks about it to another, who’d recognized her as Olive. Looking over some old photos they found a picture of her in said dress with ‘Olive’ printed on the accompanying sash.
